Windows 7 installation of printer fails

When installing dopdf-7.exe to a windows 7 integral 64 bits, the printer installation does not succeed.
The error message that comes up is "Windows cannot install the DoPdf printer driver in kernel mode. Please get a compatible driver, contact the manufacturer".

Software was run from a cmd prompt that was started "run as an administrator".

Policies explicitly authorize installation of printer drivers.
Already tried installing 6, 7.1, uninstalling properly the previous versions (getting rid of all files in wow64 etc)
Any suggetions ?
