pdf from Word with a WordArt heading

With the exception of the title heading, the whole document comes out beautifully.

However, the heading on each page was done using WordArt in MS Word and while the actual title is almost visible it's completely covered with some variegated copper-colored bars. Is there a cure for this problem? How do I remove the blockage bars or avoid them being added to the document?
